We're big fans of Ian Drummond, the man who originally trained as a florist but has since gone on to become a leading player in the houseplant world as Creative Director of Indoor Garden Design, a passionate indoor landscaping company, and is now author of newly released book 'At Home with Plants'. Now he's teamed up with Ikea to produce a gorgeous Chelsea exhibit proving houseplants are a million miles from boring and should in fact play a major role in everyone's home. Not only does it make for a refreshingly real and consumer-friendly Chelsea exhibit; Ian's design can genuinely be recreated in anyone's home with matching Ikea furniture to boot, but it's also inspiration for florists across the country who could and should be jumping on the houseplant bandwagon to boost profits.
Ian's Silver-Medal winning exhibit is co-created with IKEA in celebration of the beauty of horticulture in the home. Titled 'At Home with Plants', it comprises of three walk-through rooms, situated in the show's Grand Pavilion. The exhibit brings to life the beauty of plants in the home and shows how to use them in interior schemes, while highlighting the scientifically-proven health benefits associated with having plants in the home and working environment.
The living room, bedroom and bathroom each incorporate current trends in house plants, showing the right plant for the right place, and includes information on keeping plants healthy. The spaces are further enlivened with information on the plants used within each scheme.
Ian says, "It's gratifying and very exciting to see how fashionable indoor plants have become and I'm thrilled that visitors to the show will have the opportunity to experience exciting ways of using plants within the home to maximum stylish effect. Our exhibit will also show how much plants can improve the health and wellbeing of the occupants of home or office, and this is a very important part of our message."
Lisa Bradshaw, Sales Leader for Plants at IKEA UK & Ireland says, "At IKEA, we believe that you don't need a lot of time, money or space to furnish your home with plants. With trends in urbanisation and small space living, not everyone has access to an outdoor space and that's why we're encouraging people to grow their own plants at home. From our understanding of life at home, we know that nature indoors can provide a sense of calmness, tranquillity and improve wellbeing too. We also know there's a desire for people to live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle by growing and eating their own produce, which is why we have introduced the VAXER Hydroponics range, allowing people to grow their own herbs and vegetables indoors.
"We'd love everyone to enjoy the many benefits of having plants at home, which is why we're excited to be working with Ian and the team at Indoor Garden Design for the 'At Home With Plants' installation".
